# Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS)     (reported upto February, 2002)
  Status :~  I.C.D.S. (Integrated Child Development Scheme) was started in the year 1975 as a pilot project with the following objectives -
  1. To improve the health and nutritional status of children in the age group of 0-6 years.
  2. To let the foundation of proper psychological, physical and social
      development of the children.
 Anganwadi Centres 
  3. To reduce the incidents of mortality, morbidity, and malnutrition and school drop outs.
  4. To achieve effective co-ordination of policy and integration amongst various departments to promote child development.
  5. To enhance the capability of mother to look after the normal health and nutritional need of the children through proper nutrition and health education.

  To cover the above objectives the following package of services were also introduced :
  1. Early Childhood Education (ECE)
  2. Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP)
  3. Immunization
  4. Health Check-up
  5. Nutrition and Health Education
  6. Referral Services

  At present 12 (twelve) blocks are covered within ICDS Project out of which 7 (seven) CARE assisted converted to Non-CARE Projects.

Balika Samriddhi Yojana :


    Till date, the district is in receipt of Rs. 23,09,500/- (Rupees twenty three lakhs nine thousand five hundred) only in three installments from 1997-1998 to 1999-2000 for execution of the scheme in the district of Cooch Behar. 4576 cases have so far been sanctioned that counted a sum of Rs. 22,88,000/- (Rupees twenty two lakhs eighty eight thousand) only.

Pradhan Mantri Gramoday Yojna :


    PMGY has already been implemented in five ICDS projects and presently it is ordered to introduce remaining seven projects of this district. The beneficiaries of this scheme are the children of 6 months to 3 years of age and from the BPL families. "Take Home ration" has been adopted for distribution of food stuff for the beneficiaries.
    There shall be two home ration days in a month, i.e. fortnightly. The CDPO will fix the date well in advance and inform the concerned BDO/ Medical Officer of Health and the respective Prodhans, so that on the day of distribution of take home ration, health check-up Programme for the children may be made properly.
