# Status of PWD Highway Division

1)  Total Road Length under Cooch Behar Highway Division - 355 km
i) Total Road 355 km is black top
ii) No Kutcha Road is there under this Division

          

2)  Expenditure incurred for maintenance of road
Through Grant-in-Aid
i) 1999-2000 -  Nil
ii) 2000-2001 -  Rs. 769.14 lakhs
iii) 2001-2002 -  Rs. 103.96 lakhs (This expenditure is spilled over from 2000-2001. Out of which only Rs. 12.00 lakhs was sanctioned during 2001-2002)





Through Departmental Non-Plan Fund
i) 1999-2000 -  Rs. 98.37 lakhs
ii) 2000-2001 -  Rs. 30.20 lakhs
iii) 2001-2002 -  Rs. 26.20 lakhs
          
3)  Development of road work considered under HUDCO loan assistant Scheme during 2000-2001
Total Length : 93.91 km.
Sanctioned Amount : Rs. 4,295.84 lakhs
    Out of which 18.00 km length is under Jalpaiguri Highway Division. The total work is
    under completion stage
          
4)  Development of road under R.I.D.F. - IV

Four Bridges were taken up in 2000-2001 under R.I.D.F. - IV
   Out of which three Bridges are in complete stage.
Total Sanctioned Amount :  Rs. 495.42 lakhs

Another Bridge over river 'Dharala' under R.I.D.F. - IV is under progress
Total Cost will involve :  Rs. 392.00 lakhs
Sanctioned Amount :  Rs. 260.00 lakhs
          
5)  Development of road under R.I.D.F. - VI
Three Bridges have been considered.
Total Sanctioned Amount -  Rs. 900.95 lakhs   (work in progress)
Total Tendered Amount -  Rs. 922.19 lakhs
          
6)  Development of road under R.I.D.F. - VII
Two major Bridges have been proposed for consideration under R.I.D.F. - VII
Approximate cost of these 2 Bridges will be Rs. 725.00 lakhs.

Widening and Strengthening of the existing roads under this Division have been considered and for which an estimate amounting to Rs.2,662.00 lakhs already sent to Zilla Parishad for consideration.

# Status of PWD Cooch Behar Division


While participating in the decentralized plan process, Cooch Behar Division (PWD) has to play a key role to make the plan a grand success.
     As regard to execution of work, PWD Cooch Behar division has a credit of recent completion/verge of completing following
     important works within couple of years :-

1. Up gradation of District Hospital and four other Sub-Divisional Hospitals.
2. Construction of Juvenile Court building at Sagar Dighi Square.
3. Construction of Mental Hospital Annexe at Tufanganj.
4. Construction of Fire Station building at Tufanganj.
5. Construction of Annexe building of District Library at Cooch Behar.
6. Vertical extension of Treasury building.
7. Construction of 9 nos. of R.C.C. bridges within remote corners within the district.
8. Construction of Court building at Dinhata.
9. Special repair to Heritage gate near Debibari.
10. Construction of Tinbigha Corridor.

Beside the above salient works this division has to maintain 284 kms. Pucca road length with bridges and culverts. Most of the Govt. building are also maintained by this Division. Different entrusted schemes under Grant-in-aid,RIDF and BADP etc. Have also been executed from time to time.

In near future this division proudly puts forward the proposal for undertaking the following major works :-
1. Improvement of existing carriage ways between Cooch Behar and Dinhata under loan assistance of HUDCO.
2. Preservation of Sidhanath Siva Temple at Dhaluabalri.
3. Construction of RCC bridge over river Saniajan under RIDF-VI near Mekliganj.
4. Construction of SAARC road for smooth transportation between India, Bhutan and Bangladesh.
5. Construction of Ashokbari PHC in between Mathabhanga and Jamaldaha.
6. Construction of New Collectorate building at Sagardighi Square at Cooch Behar.
7. Construction of Annexe building to Circuit House at Cooch Behar.
8. Improvement of Dinhata-Gossanimari Road under RIDF-VI.
9. Construction of Centenary bluilding within ABN Seal College at Cooch Behar.

Over and above many proposals under Grants-in-Aid, RIDF-VII with maintenance of roads and bluildings etc. during this financial year are likely to be taken up. All the executions are on the basis of realistic need and also to bring changes in the life of people of this remote district of West Bengal.

# Rural Roads


Almost all of the rural roads of this district are maintained by the three tier Panchayati Raj System (approximately 1020 km. kutcha and 125 km metal road). A perspective plan of PMGSY is under process to ensure better connectivity. Due emphasis has been given to connect every habitation and on connectivity of rural markets. During 2001-2002 the sect oral allocation is to the tune of Rs.7279.37 lakh. The sources of fund are grant in aid RIDF-VIII, JGSY, PMGSY and Special Area Development Programme.

# Status of WBSEB - West Bengal State Electricity Board

At present the power is fed from two directions viz. from Birpara 220/132 KV power grid sub-station through Alipur Duar 132/66 KV sub-station of WBSEB and Dabgram 220/132 KV power grid sub-station through Maynaguri 132/33 KV sub-station of WBSEB.
Alipur Duar 132 KV sub-station supplies power to the following Blocks :
1. Cooch Behar-I & Cooch Behar-II blocks through Cooch Behar 66/33/11 KV sub-station and 
Chakchaka 33/11 KV sub-station. Chakchaka sub-station also feeds power to the Industrial Complex there.
2. Tufanganj-I & Tufanganj-II Blocks through Tufanganj-33/11 KV sub-station.

Dinhata-I & Dinhata-II Blocks through Dinhata-33/11 KV sub-station.

Maynaguri 132/33 KV sub-station supplies power to the following Blocks :
1. Mathabhanga-I & Mathabhanga-II blocks through Mathabhanga 33/11 KV sub-station.
2. Sitalkuchi & Sitai Block through Sitalkuchi 33/11 KV sub-station.
3. Mekhliganj Block through Changrabandha 33/11 KV sub-station.
4. Haldibari block through Haldibalri 33 KV sub-station.

Though there is a double feeding arrangement in the two District, previously there was no interlinking arrangment which is now under Construction from Cooch Behar  Sub-Station to Mathabhanga Sub-Station under fund assistance by Uttar Banga Unnayan Parishad.

One industrial Growth Centre has been set up at Chakchaka for promoting the new entrepreneurs. For this purpose one 33/11 KV sub-station has been constructed.

Already four new industries are receiving power from WBSEB sub-station and six others will be connected shortly.
